In my paintings, I almost always prefer working directly from life. Whether it is plein air landscapes, work with human figures or still lives, each painting is an opportunity to explore new realms of forms, color, and mark making. I hope to achieve some expression of communication with nature. I balance a refined sense of color and pictorial form of impressionism with the somewhat deviant and vigorous approach to surface and mark-making of abstract expressionism.
