An Art Gallery on The Big River dedicated to Art of, by and for The People!
I grew up in a very creative family. My father was a photographer, musician, artist, furniture maker, stamp collector, coin collector, and printer. My mother did the hand coloring of the portrait photographs in transparent oils. They always supported my interest in the fine arts. I graduated from the Minneapolis College of Fine Arts. During this time I studied in Holland. I have always had a studio either in my home or separate space. I have shown my work in various galleries in Texas, Minnesota, Florida and Mexico. I have used many mediums to achieve certain results and am currently enjoying using gold leaf with oils and acrylics. These are abstract images, but I also enjoy working in a representational style. These are mostly about the tropical images I photograph while vacationing in Mexico. I have taught drawing at Winona State University as an adjunct professor. I have been a restoration artist for the Historic Paramount Theatre in Austin, MN.and have restored old paintings for the city of Winona, MN, the Winona County Historical Society, Winona State University, and many individuals. Currently I own and operate Durfey Studios Framing, a custom picture framing business.
